As part of the deal, the Mavericks will receive Anthony Davis, Max Christie, and the Lakers’ 2029 first-round pick in exchange for Doncic. The 25-year-old had been delivering an impressive 2024-25 season, averaging 28.1 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 7.8 assists through 22 games.
Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison explained the team’s reasoning behind the trade, telling ESPN, “I believe that defense wins championships. I believe that getting an All-Defensive center and an All-NBA player with a defensive mindset gives us a better chance. We’re built to win now and in the future.”
