Barbie is breaking new ground—and it’s doing so with a King. In a first-of-its-kind move, Mattel has teamed up with LeBron James to release a Ken doll modeled after the NBA icon, making James the brand’s first-ever professional athlete to be immortalized in plastic as a “Kenbassador.”
The collaboration is more than just a cultural crossover—it’s a celebration of LeBron’s impact on and off the court. With four NBA championships, two Olympic gold medals, and 20 All-Star selections under his belt, James has long been a symbol of excellence in sports. Now, he’s being spotlighted by one of the world’s most recognizable toy brands to inspire the next generation of leaders and dreamers.

Working directly with the Barbie design team, LeBron helped craft every element of the doll’s appearance. It features his signature streetwear-meets-sportswear vibe: a custom varsity jacket, the LeBron James Family Foundation’s “We Are Family” T-shirt, Nike Terminator High sneakers, Beats headphones, sunglasses, a fanny pack, a watch, and his signature “I PROMISE” wristband.
The varsity jacket is rich in personal symbolism, featuring:
- A “23” patch referencing his iconic jersey number
- An “Ohio” patch paying homage to his Akron hometown
- A “We Are Family” patch representing his foundation’s mission
The doll even stands slightly taller than standard Ken dolls—a nod to James’ 6’9″ frame and larger-than-life legacy.
“I know how important it is for kids to see themselves in their heroes,” James said. “Partnering with Barbie to create a Ken doll that inspires kids to be their authentic selves and go after their dreams means the world to me.”
As part of the launch, Mattel is donating to the LeBron James Family Foundation to support initiatives in education, housing, and community development. Plus, for every doll purchased at Target from April 14–19, Mattel will donate a copy of LeBron’s children’s book I Am More Than to Save the Children.
The LeBron James Kenbassador doll drops April 14 for $75 at major retailers including Target, Amazon, Walmart, and Mattel Creations. Fans in L.A. can also hit up an early-release event at UNDEFEATED on April 12—where LeBron will be signing dolls in person.
