Even when he’s trying to be self-critical, Anthony Edwards just can’t help being Anthony Edwards.
Following the Timberwolves’ Game 1 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference Finals, the All-Star guard voiced frustration over his own offensive performance and he did it in classic Ant fashion: with some unfiltered language.
“I only took 13 f—ing shots,” Edwards said, referring to his 18-point, 5-for-13 shooting night.
The NBA wasn’t amused.
The NBA Responds
On Thursday, the league announced a $50,000 fine for Edwards due to the use of profanity in a live media setting—a penalty that adds to his growing list of infractions this season.
With this latest sanction, Edwards has now racked up an estimated $420,000 in fines during the 2024–25 campaign. Whether it’s heated postgame interviews or on-court outbursts, the league has repeatedly cracked down on the Timberwolves star’s colorful vocabulary.
And with the Western Conference Finals still underway, the total could climb even higher.
Ant Being Ant
Whether it’s part of the fiery persona he’s built, or just raw emotion, Edwards’ habit of saying exactly what’s on his mind continues to cost him.
But with the Timberwolves locked into a tough series against OKC, fans are hoping Ant channels that passion into production in Game 2.
Game 1 Recap: A Rough Night for the Wolves
The Timberwolves struggled offensively in Game 1, falling 114–95 to the Thunder. Minnesota shot just 42.6% from the field and 5-of-23 from three, with Anthony Edwards scoring 18 points on 5-of-13 shooting, along with 9 rebounds and 3 assists.
The Thunder’s defense smothered Edwards for much of the night, and with the Wolves falling behind early, frustration clearly carried over into the postgame presser.
