👀 Paul Pierce just shook the table — and he wasn’t joking around.
Appearing on FS1’s Speak, the Hall of Famer didn’t hold back when discussing the legacy implications of a potential fifth championship for Stephen Curry. And his take? It would change everything in the GOAT debate.
“If Steph Curry wins the championship, or one more championship — let’s say this year — gets the Finals MVP, we’re gonna have some very, very, very, very uncomfortable conversations,” Pierce said.
Steph vs. LeBron? “He Would Have Won the Era”
Pierce pointed out that if Curry adds another ring, he’ll reach five titles — the same number as Kobe Bryant and one more than LeBron James. But more importantly, Pierce emphasized how Curry would’ve done it without a Top 75 teammate in three of them — and with three different squads:
- Pre-Kevin Durant Warriors
- The KD era
- Post-KD Warriors (now with aging vets and young role players)
“That tells me, is he greater than LeBron? He won the era. In the LeBron era — five chips, a unanimous MVP — that’s gotta hold some weight,” Pierce said.
“Put Steph Up There With MJ”
Pierce didn’t stop at comparing Curry to LeBron. He took it even further:
“We gonna start putting Steph up there with Michael Jordan, seriously. If he wins one more, think about that. It’s gonna get real uncomfortable, I promise you.”
This isn’t the first time Pierce has stirred the pot when it comes to LeBron James, but the framing here isn’t pure bias — it’s based on rings, era dominance, and history. Curry’s 2016 unanimous MVP remains one-of-one, and another Finals run without a superstar co-star could tip the scales in his favor.
Whether fans agree or not, one thing is certain: if Steph goes all the way this year, the internet — and NBA history books — might never be the same.
