Bronny James’ time with the South Bay Lakers has officially come to an end this season — but not because of a call-down. The G League regular season has wrapped up. South Bay did not qualify for the playoffs. As a result, James will remain with the Los Angeles Lakers for the rest of the NBA season.

The rookie guard was selected 55th overall in the 2024 NBA Draft. He has split time between the Lakers and their G League affiliate while adjusting to the pro game. After one season at USC, Bronny joined his father LeBron James in the purple and gold. It marked one of the most high-profile rookie debuts in recent memory.

Bronny’s Breakout in the G League

In 11 regular-season games with South Bay, he averaged 21.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 5.5 assists. Those numbers show his all-around game and offensive potential.

His most impressive performance came on March 24, 2025. In that game, he exploded for a career-high 39 points. He also added seven rebounds, four assists, and four steals in a win over the Santa Cruz Warriors. That game turned heads and highlighted his rising stock as a young player.

Remaining With the Lakers the Rest of the Way

With the G League season concluded, Bronny will now remain with the Lakers as a full-time contributor for the remainder of their NBA campaign. His development and scoring ability could provide a spark for a team navigating a critical stretch of the season.

The Lakers faced the Oklahoma City Thunder on Tuesday night before heading to Dallas to take on the Mavericks in the second half of a back-to-back. Bronny was initially listed as questionable with an illness but was ruled out before tip-off. It was unfortunate timing, as several key rotation players were expected to sit, potentially opening up extended minutes for him.

Just two appearances removed from dropping 17 points against the Milwaukee Bucks — his NBA career high — Bronny has flashed promise when given meaningful minutes. While illness kept him sidelined this time, he remains a valuable depth option as Los Angeles pushes toward the postseason.
